To define chivalry, one could simply look up one man’s reasoning and have a simple answer. The true test would come from how much in our daily lives do we attain or provide such action to be duly noteworthy of the title “Chivalrous Action.” Chivalry can be viewed in several different manners. The first being the savior for the princess. It is every little girl’s fantasy. A beautiful man who is strong, brave, fearless, and yet sweet at heart. He takes care of her and provides for her. He saves her from her childhood. Another manner to view chivalrous behavior is to define his level of breeding. Does he have good social graces and a politeness that is respectful. These are the two main definitions of what chivalry could be today, but the real question remain in does this exist? Do people in relationships still have manners? Growing up in the eighties and nineties provided a generation with a sense of entitlement. Dating is becoming extinct. The need to be saved by man died when women found a place outside the home that paid a lot better, and sometimes with nicer working conditions. Women no longer needed a prince charming or a knight in shining armor. They are fully capable of providing as much, if not more, than their fearless protector. When a woman does find a suitable live-in partner, whether he turns into a husband or not, they fall in love with the companionship. Women understand that men are not always chivalrous, but instead they are human. They cry when they are sad, they bleed when they are hurt, and most of all they make mistakes. Men sometimes forget the little things like opening the car, or buying flower for no reason.A man may still always open the door to a building. He was raised this way. He learned to exhibit such a behavior because he was trained. Many can view this as just having a polite disposition, and a good mother. Does these behaviors make a man chivalrous? In some women’s eyes this is acceptable, but for most they long for more. It would be nice to have not so much chivalry but romance. Words that express what it is bringing us together. Intellectual Chivalry is what women in today’s society really need. They are capable of opening their own doors, but no one is completely capable of feeling secure with another human.People in relationships, especially long term ones, often crave the satisfaction of intellectual chivalry because it satisfies what they cannot give themselves. Can two people have this kind of cohabitation? Can they live together and communicate the precise words the other so desperately needs to hear? This defines how chivalry died. Women evolved past men by not needing and depending on their actions to be chivalrous. However, men did not evolve their intellectual chivalry. It is easier for a woman to express a thousand emotions than for a man to express one. There are some exceptions. These men are defined into groups labeled: “EMO’s,” “Metrosexuals,” and the classic “Momma’s Boy.” These are just the exceptions.Chivalry died when women became liberated and no longer needed a man’s action to provide. It has become unnecessary, but it is still wanted and desired. Instead of viewing your mate as an equal partner, try putting them on a pedestal. Let women still princesses and queens for a few moments each day. Chivalry may be dead, but it can be revived. People just need to take time off from work and every other obligation and just tune into the lover’s side. Tune into the intellectual part of being chivalrous. Say the precious words that she cannot tell herself. Tell her of your undying commitment, not just on your wedding day, but every day. These little things are the biggest actions of chivalry.
